Organization:

  • The Indoor Range is run by an Indoor Range Manager.

  • The Indoor Range Manager is appointed yearly by the Board of Directors.

  • The Indoor Range Manager reports directly to the Board of Directors.

  • The Outdoor Range Committee is a Standing Committee.

Rules:

General

The purpose of these rules is to define the use of the Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club ranges to their maximum potential with the least amount of damage to club property, the environment and with safety as the primary concern. Guests using the range must be accompanied by a member. Range rules are there for your safety anyone not observing the range rules will be asked to leave and will be brought in front of the Board of Directors for further action. DO NOT mix drugs or alcohol with SHOOTING.

A firearm for the purpose of these rules is any firearm that fires a projectile or mechanism that will propel an object. This is to include air guns, rifles and paint ball guns or any other configuration that obtain the objective of propelling a projectile.

Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club has designated areas for firearm ranges. There will be NO discharging of a firearm on club property other than at the designated ranges. The exception to the rule is during club events, function or open club hunting seasons.

Events

The Range Committee will be scheduling events through out the year in the from of league nights, ham and turkey shoots, NRA, CMP events and other events. All events are open to club members and the public and will be scheduled well in advance of the event so that they may be coordinated with other committee schedules.

Indoor Range

The indoor range is specifically operated by the Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club SOP (Standard Operating Procedures).

Firearms permitted

Any .22 to .32 caliber rifle, any handgun that fires a traditional known cartridge.

Ammunition Permitted

All traditionally known pistol rounds including full metal jacket (ie: .25 ACP through .45 ACP).
All traditionally know revolver rounds either lead or semi-jacked.
Any rim fired ammunition from .17 caliber to .32 caliber.
For other than listed permission of the range safety officer must be obtained.

Equipment Required
Mandatory use of ear and eye protection while using the indoor range or as a spectator.
A firearm in good working condition that is safe to shoot.

The following are NOT allow in the Indoor Range:

• Fully automatic firearms
• Black powder firearms of any kind
• Black powder fixed ammunition
• Center fire rifles of any caliber
• Shotguns of any gauge • Shot shells fired from a handgun or rifle
• Firing armor piercing ammunition
• Firing of tracer ammunition
• Firing of any multiple projectile ammunition
• Firing of handguns that are chambered for what is traditionally      known as a center fire rifle round ammunition.
• The unsafe handling of firearms and/or ammunition
• The consumption of alcohol or drugs on the range or for at least eight (8) hours prior to using the range
• The consumption of drink, food and/or smoking while on the range.

Outdoor Range

Firearms permitted

• Use of any rim, center fire rifle or pistol. Use of any black powder
firearm.
• Use of any handgun, rifle, shotgun or black powder firearm.

Ammunition Permitted

• All traditionally known pistol or rifle rounds including full metal jacket.

Equipment Required

• Mandatory use of ear and eye protection while using the indoor range or as a spectator.
• A firearm in good working condition that is safe to shoot.

The following are NOT allow in the outdoor range

• Firing over the back stop
• Firing above the safety line
• Firing from more than five (5) feet behind the rear most firing line
• Placement of target more than three (3) feet in front of the back stop
• Placement of a target higher than the safety line
• The use of bottles, cans or other objects as targets
• Firing armor piercing ammunition
• Firing of tracer ammunition
• The unsafe handling of firearms and/or ammunition
• The consumption of alcohol or drugs on the range or for at least eight (8) hours prior to using the range
• The consumption of drink, food and/or smoking while on the range.

Conduct on the Range

• Obey all Range Rules.
• Obey the Range Safety Officers Commands.
• Never enter the fire line area until you are properly cleared
• Never handle firearms when persons are down range.
• Always Clean up after you shoot.
• Fire only at your assigned paper targets.
• Members are responsible for their Guests.

Disciplinary action of a member or guest will be taking for any infraction of any of the range rules for all disciplines by the Range Safety officer and the Board of Directors.

Range Rules For All Disciplines
• Remember SAFETY FIRST there are other shooter and persons within range.
• Always point the Muzzle in a safe direction.
• Keep your Finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
• Keep the Firearm unloaded except to shoot.
• Keep the Action open for all to see.
• Be sure of Your Target and What is Beyond.
• Know your firearm and its ammunition.
• Know where others are at all times.
• Wear eye and ear protection.
• DO NOT mix drugs or alcohol with SHOOTING.
• While shooting if a jam occurs, warn others, keep the firearm pointed down range, notify the Range Safety Officer.
• Know and understand the rules for the discipline you are shooting.

Specific Outdoor Range Rules

NRA GUN SAFETY RULES:

1. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR FIREARM POINTED IN A DOWN RANGE
2. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL READY TO SHOOT
3. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR FIREARM UNLOADED UNTIL READY TO USE IT

GENERAL SAFETY RULES:

1. EYE AND EAR PROTECTION IS MANDATORY FOR EVERYONE ON THE RANGE.
2. NEVER MIX ALCOHOL OR DRUGS WITH FIREARMS.
3. ALWAYS TREAT EVERY FIREARM AS IF IT WERE LOADED
4. KNOW YOUR TARGET AND WHAT'S BEYOND YOUR TARGET
5. CALL "CEASE-FIRE" IMMEDIATELY IN A LOUD AND CLEAR VOICE IF YOU SEE ANY MOVEMENT DOWN RANGE, THEN CHECK IT OUT
6. NEVER TURN YOUR BACK TO THE FIRING LINE WITH A LOADED FIREARM IN YOUR HAND, OR A FIREARM THAT HAS MISFIRED.
7. REMOVE ALL EAR PROTECTION WHILE DOWN RANGE
8. ALWAYS STAY ALERT AROUND RANGE AREA ESPECIALLY DOWN RANGE.
9. NO SMOKING, NO REFRESHMENTS, NO ALCOHOL AND NO DRUGS OF ANY KIND ALLOWED ON THE FIRING LINE AT ANY TIME
10. NO PETS OF ANY KIND ARE ALLOWED ON THE RANGE.
11. ALL SHOOTERS MUST STAND BEHIND AND HAVE THEIR MUZZELS OVER THE FIRING LINE.

GENERAL SAFETY PROCEDURES

*** BEFORE GOING DOWN RANGE OR FORWARD OF THE FIRING LINE AND FOR ANY REASON


1. ALWAYS CALL OUT "CEASE FIRE" AND VISUALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU WHERE HEARD.
2. MAKE SURE ALL FIREARMS ARE UNLOADED AND MADE SAFE WITH GUNS PLACED ACTION OPENED ON THE BENCH OR TABLE.
3. FIREARMS ARE NEVER TO BE TOUCHED OR HANDLED FOR ANY REASON WHILE SOMEONE IS DOWN RANGE. PERIOD!!!

NOTES

*** TARGET FRAMES ARE TO RETURNED AND STACKED IN THE PAVILION.
*** USE OF NON PAPER TARGETS IS PROHIBITED. PAPER TARGET MUST BE CENTERED AND ATTACHED TO THE TARGET FRAMES PROVIDED, THIS ENSURES ALL BULLETS HIT THE EARTHEN BACK STOP AND NO DESTRUCTION OF CLUB PROPERTY THIS INCLUDES TREES, AN ANY OTHER EQUIPMENT.


Enforcement

Any member or guest being found not in compliance with these rules shall be subject to a hearing of the Board of Directors and may be terminated from the membership.
